I needed a "new" writing desk.  I really didn't feel like cruising the usual on-line "hot spots" (you know the ones...Wayfair, Houzz, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Pottery Barn, etc.).  I wanted something more sustainable, more earth-conscious in this New Year.

And while I am all for keeping up with the latest trends in mid-century modernity, I am also of the belief that one's living spaces and design elements should personally resonate with who is living there.  Dictionary.com defines "resonate" as that which produces "a positive feeling or emotional response".  And I just wasn't personally resonating with "mid-century modern" (audience gasps!) - at least for this particular living space.

As with many others in this New Year, I have been moving through some life transitions of my own.  And whenever I move through a life transition, I also feel the need to rebalance my own personal living spaces accordingly.  It's just the natural order of things.  Or as the Japanese might say, the wabi-sabi of life or the "Zen of things" (more on this to come in a future blog). 

As with most others, I cannot afford to completely refurbish my home whenever some life shift occurs.  But, I am a fervent believer (and "do-er") in making a few updates to design elements in my living space(s) that create a positive rebalancing of the energy (chi) with where I am in life.  It just feels better to me all the way around.

So, back to my little writing desk project...a small purchase made through Craigslist, coupled with a little silver paint, antique glazing, and some silver leafing on top and...MAGIC - a "new", repurposed writing desk that is now proudly sitting in my personal office space (as opposed to the local landfill) - just waiting for me to come up with my next creative writing idea - so stay tuned!
